Energy Energy is celebrated and harnessed. Deep roof overhangs and trellises act as a system to collect solar radiation at desirable times, and to protect against excessive heat gains during warmer seasons. By careful material selection, the interior temperatures remain constant through temporal cycles (daily, seasonally, yearly). This same material selection allows radiant floor slabs to distribute heat in those regions where it is needed, and thus use waste less. Chimneys and stair halls double as ventilation ducts that enable the house to use natural ventilation by mechanically opening windows above to draw fresh air in below. The roof overhangs are curved to respond to the sun’s daily path. Photovoltaic film is applied to the metal roofs in order to harvest the suns energy. |
