Greenwich Residence

Large boulders along the edge of the site are used to keep back the sea, and established the palette of indigenous stone to be used on the house. The sheltering roof forms and the stone base to the house are used to protect the structure from the winds and create a visual ballast that anchors the house to its “moorings”. Another clue was taken from the stone-based lighthouse one-quarter mile from the site as it is used to inform the tower, that includes a study, and its tall, round form establishes a dialog with it. The curving staircase inside the tower leads to a panoramic view through wide windows that open-up to the lighthouse, wetlands and the Sound. Other large windows are carefully located to allow the house to feel open and connected with the outdoors.
